THE REVEREND DR. FREDERICK D. SHERROD, III

Reverend Dr. Frederick Douglas Sherrod, III was born in Meridian, Mississippi.  He is the second oldest child of the late Frederick D. Sherrod, Jr. and Mildred W. Sherrod.  He is a military “brat” native. In 2014, he completed his Doctorate Degree in Pastoral Care and Counseling and his dissertation was written on the "Effects of a Blended Family in the Life of the Church in the 21st Century".  Pastor Sherrod is a graduate of Beacon University, Columbus GA where he earned a Master of Arts Degree in Pastoral Care and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biblical Studies.  

 

​Rev. Dr. Sherrod has preached and taught the good news of Jesus the Christ for over 29 years.  Upon receiving his appointment by Bishop Harry L. Seawright at the 10th Session of the Ninth District Planning Meeting, Rev. Sherrod was appointed Presiding Elder for the Dothan-Eufaula District of the Southeast Alabama Conference.  He served in the 9th District as Pastor of Stringer Street African Methodist Episcopal Church, Dothan, Alabama and Pastor of Greater St. Paul AME Church, Scottsboro, AL and many churches in the State of Georgia (6th District):  Grant Chapel AME Church, Moultrie, GA; Mount Gilead AME Church, Columbus, GA; Historic Campbell Chapel AME Church, Americus, GA; Payne Chapel AME Church, Cuthbert, GA; and Brown Chapel AME Church, Fort Gaines, GA.

 

​During July 3, 2012, Pastor Sherrod was elected at the 49th Session of the General Conference to serve as an Alternate on the Judicial Council of the African Methodist Episcopal Church in Nashville, TN (Term 2012-2020).  Rev. Dr. Sherrod served on the 9th District Board of Examiner as Secretary.  He was also Dean of the Dothan-Eufaula District Board of Examiner and a member of the Southeast Conference Finance Committee. He served on the Board of Examiner in the Northwest Alabama Annual Conference.  Pastor Sherrod participated on the Board of Trustees, Judiciary Committee and the Finance Committee in the 6th District Annual Conferences.

 

​As an innovator, builder, visionary and spiritual leader, Pastor Sherrod is remembered for leading many souls to Christ and spearheading many dynamic programs and projects to better serve the people of God and the community.  He loves the Lord and enjoys working in his vineyard, doing the Will of God, God’s Way.

​

​He is married to Dr. D. Michelle Sherrod. They have eleven children together and one adopted son, a nephew, and thirteen grandchildren.  He is also a Charter member of the Americus-Sumter Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. where he served as a Chaplain.
